The position of Drammen is excellent for business and industry. For ages, ever since proud sailing ships took in timber at the docks to return with goods from the outside world, Drammen has been a commercial centre for the region. All roads may not lead to Drammen, but you could say nearly all. Drammen is a junction for transport by road, sea and rail. Deep-water piers enable Drammen Harbour to receive giant ships, often with a whole cargo of cars. Drammen is Norway's largest port of entry for cars in particular and citrus fruit.
There is a short distance from the harbour to the most central part of the East Country. In the next couple of years, major investments in infrastructure will result in an improved flow of traffic because main roads will be by-passing the city centre. Drammen's new dimension as traffic junction is due to the advanced use of information technology in networks cooperating at a local, national and international level.
