On the coast of Central Norway, north-west of the islands Hitra and Frøya - with the Atlantic Ocean as it´s nearest neighbour - lies the fishing village of Sula. Sula municipality has approximately 8.100 inhabitants and covers a area of 58,7 km2. The administrative centre is the village of Langevåg. Langevåg is located approximately 10 minutes by boat from the centre of Ålesund.

Other villages include Solevåg, Fiskarstrand, Veibust, Leirvågen, and Mauseidvågen. Sula is an island, bordered by Breisundet on the west, Storfjorden and Vartdalsfjorden to the south, Hessafjorden and Borgundfjorden to the north, and the narrow Vegsundet strait to the east. Manufacturing and production is the most important economical sector. Shipyards, fish processing, textile manufacturing and furniture production are especially vital. Most famous brand from Sula is Devold of Norway, with high quality woollen sweaters and underwear. Visit Devold with its interesting museum, knitting factory outlet and cafeteria.

The nature is typically coastal, forest is sparse, rock and heather dominate. The highest elevation, Vardane, is 776 metres above sea level. Its neighbouring municipalities are all separated from it by sea. Hareid to the west, Ørsta to the south, Giske to the northwest, and Ålesund to the north and east.

Sula is connected to Ørsta by ferry. Also, Sula is connected to Hareid by ferry at Sulesund.

Sula, known as the musical township, with Ytre Suløen, Brazz Bros, and Annbjørg Lien to name but a few, also has a wealth of outdoor life and sports. Pay a visit to such places as Vasset Outdoor and Sports Park, with its hiking trails, floodlit trails, stadium, shooting area, fishing and horseriding facilities.

FISHING

Sula is every fisherman´s great dream, and is the place for you if you want the genuine experience of a small, fishing-based society. Fishermen from the entire region were drawn to the attractive fishing areas of Sula. Borgundfjorden known for Cod fishing and south of the island lies Storfjorden.
