Vefsn muncipality has approximately 13.400 inhabitants and covers a area of 1.928,5 km2. Mosjøen is the muncipality centre and Mosjøen have about 10.000 inhabitants. The E6 and railway pass through the town and the airport is conveniently situated 5 kilometres from the town centre. A secondary road (78 on the map), connects the beautiful coast of Helgeland to the main thoroughfares, supporting all modes of transport.
Regardless of the time of year you visit - with the mystical Midnight sun, a spectacular thunderstorm or the magical Northern Lights. The polar night occurs when the night lasts for more than 24 hours. This occurs only inside the polar circles.
Mosjøen is situated in the center of Norway and constitutes a junction for all means of communication. The city is situated at the end of Vefsnafjord surrounded of great nature. Mosjøen is a pleasant and vibrant city with a wealth of cultural and musical activity. There is also a wide range of cafes and restaurants, shops, art and handicraft workshops, and lots, lots more. The diversity of the natural surroundings - from mountains and fjord to inland villages - allows the borough to offer just about any kind of outdoor activity imaginable, summer and winter alike.
Stroll down the Sjøgata, where a major part of the buildings, dating from the 19th century, have been restored to their original style. Along the Vefsna river there are many newly renovated wharves, bringing a special charm to the Sjøgata area of Mosjøen. You will also find a small local museum, which displays how the inhabitants of Nordland have made their living for the past 200 years. Vefsn´s contribution to "Artscape Nordland" is called "Tre eldar" (three fires). Sculpture by the Icelandic artist Hulda Hakon. Located in Elveparken south of Mosjøen town centre. Hire a rowing boat and spend a few hours on the river Vefsna, whether you want to try your luck at fishing, or just enjoy the serenity and the wonderful view of the old part of Mosjøen town.
500 metres deep limestone cave. Rather demanding. Admittance only in the company of local guide. The trip lasts for 3 - 4 hours. For parties of 3 - 12 persons. Season approximately June 21 (after the thaw) to the autumn.
VEFSN VILLAGE MUSEUM
Collection of 12 buildings dating from the 1600´s and up to present century. Reconstructed surroundings and comprehensive collection of exhibits. Cafe.
In the Jacobsenbrygga warehouse, the Vefsn Museum has exhibitions all year round, including an authentic exhibition of life in "Old Mosjøen". The ground floor of the Jacobsenbrygga is accessible to wheelchair users.
Marked hiking trails in easily accessible terrain. Good conditions for bathing and fishing. Lighted skiing trails. Start at Kippermoen, or park on the old Highway E6 (Vefsnveien).

Mosjøen Camping has the only Go-Cart track along the E6 in Nordland.
KJEMÅSEN ALPIN SLOPES
Kjemsåsen Alpine Slopes and Skjåmoen Skiing Centre. Approved county resort for all- round winter sports- ski jumping, cross- country and alpine skiing. Lighted ski trail and trail for dog- drawn sledges.

Salmon fishing in Drevja river. The wide open spaces, variable topography and vegetation and the many rivers and lakes make indre Helgeland an eldorado for hunters and anglers. You can fish for salmon, trout and sea char. Fishing permits are available for purchase from the landowners, petrol stations and camping sites. At some of the lakes it is possible to hire boats and nets.
Helgeland Golfclub is a golf course with 9 holes and a variation of difficulties. The course lies at Hellfjell, approximately 10 km from Mosjøen Center.
